In just one day. Last Thursday.
Bryson DeChambeau drops a video on his channel and hits 1.7 million views.
In a single day. By the time I’m writing this, he’s already at:
Three point six million views. (Yes, I write numbers like that. I like to work hahaha)
More audience than cable TV. Why am I telling you this? Because I’m fascinated by how he pulls it off—tapping into a timeless myth: the Cinderella story.
Title of the video: "One Pro versus 5 Average Golfers (Not Even Close)"
The guy plays a 9-hole scramble round against five Cinderellas, five average golfers, on one of LIV Golf’s holy grounds—Valderrama. Basically, five lucky lads blessed by a "golf fairy godmother" who grants them 9 holes to prove they belong in golf’s royal palace, cruising around in their buggy-carriages for a dreamy half-round with Prince DeChambeau. For nine magical holes, they’re followed by servants with cameras and the best tech at their disposal.
You’ll laugh your head off—it’s absurdly funny and wildly unfair—and you’ll instantly relate to the Cinderellas, because their swings look a lot like yours or mine...
So your hope rides along with theirs, all the way through the round, just to see if the five of them can pull off the ultimate upset.
Because honestly, they’re not even that bad.
At hole 7, they’re 2-under, if I recall. So you keep watching... just in case they tie. Exactly what YouTube loves: full video watch time.
But of course, Prince Bryson—who hates losing even at dominoes—gets to hole 8 and drops two killer shots, crushing their dream in style.
In the Ryder Cup, they’re going down. They’ll be eating bunker sand at Bethpage Black, New York. It’s coming soon.
Not sure if we can watch the Ryder through VPN... but hey, we’ll find a workaround, right?
I was at Valderrama in July, but I didn’t play with DeChambeau.
I had something much more important to do.
Greet you and give you a QR card.
Have a great weekend, golfers!
