ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dani Salmerón

I'm a Techie who plays golf.

And who one day decided technology had to solve the doubts we all have on the course.

From the cloud to the green

My name is Dani Salmerón. By day I work in Data Governance and enterprise cybersecurity — I've spent over a decade designing cloud architectures, earning certifications like AWS Security Specialty and Terraform, and helping enterprises secure and govern their data.

But when I close the laptop, I grab the irons. And that's where it all started.

Like many amateurs, I've suffered the doubt on the course: "Can I move this stone?", "Where do I drop?", "Is this a penalty area or general?". Asking playing partners doesn't always help. Calling the referee... sometimes there isn't one. And Googling with dirty hands isn't exactly convenient.

So I did what any techie would do: build the solution.

I don't just play. I study the rulebook.

Between June and November 2025, I completed the Training Course on the Rules of Golf and Committee Procedures for National Referee Exam Preparation from the Royal Spanish Golf Federation. I didn't sit the final exam (I need a handicap I don't have yet), but the deep knowledge of the R&A–USGA Rules I gained is exactly what powers Lazar.

I've also experienced elite golf from the inside as a volunteer at two of the world's most important tournaments:

🏆 2019

Solheim Cup 2019 — Gleneagles, Scotland

🏆 2023

Solheim Cup 2023 — Finca Cortesín, Spain

Standing alongside the world's best players, watching how referees operate under maximum pressure, and understanding real course dynamics... that's something you can't learn from a book.

Why I created Lazar

Lazar was born from a real frustration: the gap between knowing the rules and applying them on the course under pressure, with limited time and playing partners waiting.

I combined my expertise in AI, cloud, and cybersecurity with my rules training to create an assistant that understands a photo of your situation and tells you exactly what to do according to the official rulebook.

It's not a generic chatbot. It's a system specifically trained on the R&A–USGA Rules of Golf, designed by someone who has studied the rulebook in depth and has been on the course.

I'm also the one behind bolas.golf

Besides Lazar, I'm the creator and webmaster of bolas.golf, a community and resource dedicated to the world of golf in Spanish. Two projects, one mission: making golf more accessible and enjoyable.
